I’m Michele, and this is My Simple, Southern Slant…
Let me introduce myself…I’m a Southern girl, born-raised-and residing in Alabama. I’m blessed to have been loved and nurtured by three generations of strong, smart, and gifted Southern women. Now, its my turn to pass along what I’ve learned to anyone who desires to understand the ways, traditions and influences of living in the South. Its been said that people don’t care what you know until they know how much you care…and that’s the point-I care! It’s my heart’s desire that what I share on this site serves to encourage others and celebrate life- through my eyes, memories and experiences. There are certain hallmarks associated with being Southern…hospitality, family, generosity, kindness, manners and Faith. While all these are important, my faith in Jesus shapes every aspect of who I am. He is the source of joy in my life and the hope in my heart. He has sustained me through some of the darkest, most difficult seasons of my life, and turned them into something more beautiful than I could have ever imagined. Trusting Him and resting in His faithfulness are the keys to keeping my heart and mind focusing forward. The Bible says, “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” Proverbs 17:22. With that said, I dedicate this leap in faith to Jesus. He alone is my inspiration. May He be honored and pleased with everything posted, shared and commented on herein. So, what else makes me “cheerful” you ask?…
I’m a lover of all things blue and white, anything linen, cooking for those I love, digging in the dirt, arranging flowers, setting tables for family dinners, antiques, sterling silver, morning coffee, afternoon tea, chocolate cake, vacationing along 30A, and weekly trips to HomeGoods. I’m a horsewoman, a chicken keeper, and totally smitten with my two beloved English Cream Golden Retrievers, one of which is totally blind. I’m passionate about praise and worship music, daily Bible study and serving on the Baptism Team at my church. I have held a few job titles in my life- some of them paid and others unable to be afforded. I’ve been married to my high school sweetheart for over 30 years (1986), and I’m a mother of two grown daughters. My husband and I live on a farm in north east Jefferson County, surrounded by subdivisions. My daily routine includes feeding and tending to a herd of cows, one big bull, 7 hens, 4 horses, 2 dogs, 2 cats and a donkey named Mr. Buford. There’s always something to do! Its not always pretty, and you better not wear your good clothes. This city girl has come a long way- much of it in muck boots and pj pants…
So, come along on my journey…you are so welcome here!
Hugs,
Michele
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, — if anything is excellent or praiseworthy — think about such things. Philippians 4:8
